About Rachel

Rachel Bertone is an award-winning director and choreographer with nearly 20 years of experience as a theater and dance professional. Her mission is to foster collaborative, positive, and stimulating processes for artists and to create high quality experiences, productions, and services for communities around the world.

Over the past decade, she has staged more than 50 musicals and has garnered an international student base. Splitting her time between Boston and New York City, she continues to direct, choreograph, teach, and provide professional development services to established and aspiring artists.

Some of Bertone’s favorite director and choreographer credits include Oklahoma!, An American in Paris, West Side Story, Cabaret, In the Heights, Carousel, Oklahoma!, Gypsy, and The Wild Party, among others.

An established theater and dance educator, Bertone has taught at esteemed institutions, including Boston Conservatory at Berklee, American Repertory Theater Institute at Harvard University, Emerson College, and Long Island University.

As an arts leader, is committed to building inclusive, anti-racist communities and strives to cultivate as many opportunities as she can for artists—especially BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and women. She has an innate ability to empower and uplift artists of all ages and leads every room that she is in with empathy, integrity, intention, and joy.

Community: Bertone is committed to building inclusive communities and creating safe spaces. She wants artists to feel comfortable to explore, play, and trust in their own instincts. Everyone is welcomed into her community and has a seat at the table. 

Collaboration: Bertone believes that theater is a collaborative process. All voices in the room should be heard to not only create an equitable environment but to also help everyone feel invested in the work they are creating together.

Empowerment: Bertone uses her position of influence to uplift and give power to everyone on her team. She strives to cultivate as many opportunities as she can for artists—especially BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and women. 

Integrity: Bertone embodies a strong sense of integrity and will fight for what matters most. She stands by what she says and will do what is right no matter the circumstances. She focuses on the greater good of her team and her work.
